Residents in Haverhill, Suffolk, should prepare for a sharp change in the weather as periods of rain and strong winds are expected to arrive on Thursday, February 5, 2026. The Met Office warns that a recent spell of sunny weather will give way to persistent rain with gusts of up to about 32mph. These conditions are likely to continue through Friday, with wind chill making it feel as cold as 0°C.

The change in weather is expected to create difficult conditions for people travelling on the A1307 towards Cambridge or using the A143. Local flood risk assessments and reporting have long highlighted that the A1307 is vulnerable to standing water and wind-related disruption; a 2023 Suffolk News report described how closures on the A1307 can require long diversions. Drivers of high‑sided vehicles are advised to take extra care during the strongest gusts.

Local officials are also monitoring water levels on the Stour Brook, which runs through the middle of the town. The West Suffolk Strategic Flood Risk Assessment identifies the stretch from Meldham Bridge to Linnetts Lane as a flood‑warning area and a location prone to rapid runoff and flash flooding in heavy rain. As of 9:10am on 4 February 2026 there were no flood warnings in force for the Stour Brook, but residents living near the water are advised to monitor Environment Agency and local authority alerts while the rain continues.
