The Met Office has warned people in Haverhill, Suffolk, to prepare for heavy rain and strong wind gusts during the late afternoon and evening of February 20, 2026. Forecasters expect a 90 per cent chance of heavy downpours starting around 4pm, which may cause problems for those heading home from school or work.

Wind gusts are expected to reach up to 34mph between 2pm and 5pm today. Local residents are advised to secure loose garden furniture and allow extra time for their trips because of the blustery conditions and difficult driving environment.

According to the Environment Agency, flood warnings are already in place for parts of the country because the ground is already very wet. In this area, the Stour Brook is at risk of flooding, which could impact nearby houses and major roads like the A1307 and A143.

Local roads like Ehringshausen Way and Sturmer Road have historically faced closures due to flash flooding during heavy rain events. Drivers should remain aware of the risk of standing water and potential travel delays throughout the town tonight.
