On 13 March 2026, Leicestershire County Council updated its online portal to help people in Hinckley, Leicestershire, report illegal dumping to the correct authorities. The updated system provides clear directions on who should be contacted when rubbish is left on public streets or private property.
The council now directs residents to contact Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council for any waste found on public land. While the county council clarified that landowners are responsible for clearing waste dumped on their own private property, they still encourage people to report these incidents to local enforcement teams.
The Clean Neighbourhoods Team at the borough council is able to investigate dumping on private land and take action against offenders. Those caught fly-tipping in the local area can be issued a fixed penalty fine of £800, a rate that has been in place since April 2024.
These updates were introduced to remove confusion about which council department handles different types of waste. By providing residents with the correct contact information, authorities hope to improve the efficiency of waste management and catch more people who dump rubbish illegally.
