Residents in Hinckley, Leicestershire, should prepare for a sharp drop in temperatures this week as the Met Office forecasts heavy rain and cold winds following a mild start to the year. The change marks a notable shift from recent warm weather, with temperatures expected to fall by around 6°C by mid-week.
Heavy rain is expected to arrive from the west on Tuesday 24 March 2026, with the chance of downpours reaching 95 per cent by late evening and winds reaching 37mph. Wednesday 25 March 2026 is forecast to be the coldest day, with highs of just 8°C that will feel like 2°C due to wind gusts of up to 41mph.
Sleet showers are likely at around 6am on Wednesday, while overnight temperatures are expected to fall to 0°C by Thursday morning, increasing the risk of frost. This colder snap follows a warm spell that brought the highest temperature of 2026 so far, which reached 20°C in parts of the country.
According to Met Office Chief Forecaster Steve Willington, the move to cooler weather is entirely typical for this time of year. He explained that it is not unusual to experience colder spells and wintry showers during the month of March.
