Jenny Jones, a resident of Lindley in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, has shared how her life continues to be transformed by her hearing dog, Xander, as of 10 March 2026. The partnership, which began in 2015, has helped Jenny regain her independence and overcome the isolation she felt after being diagnosed with sensory neurological hearing loss as a child.
Xander assists Jenny by alerting her to important sounds, which has significantly reduced her daily anxiety. Before being partnered with the dog, she often felt the need to watch out of her windows to see if anyone was arriving at her home.
Jenny, who now works as a home insurance customer service advisor, said she is much happier and feels more confident in her daily life. She explained that she no longer has to worry about her alarm clock waking up her neighbours or sitting waiting for visitors.
The support was made possible through the charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. This organisation trains dogs to help people who are deaf by alerting them to essential and life-saving sounds.
Jenny has also dedicated time to fundraising for the charity to ensure others can benefit from similar assistance. Her efforts have been supported through the website JustGiving to help provide more dogs for those in need.
