The Environment Agency issued a flood alert for Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, on February 16, 2026, after officials determined that some flooding is possible in the area. The alert was made active at 1:08pm following concerns about potential rising water from local rivers and rainfall.

While the latest five-day forecast from the Met Office suggests the overall risk remains very low, people in low-lying areas are encouraged to make basic preparations. An official flood alert is a signal to prepare for possible flooding, which is different from a flood warning where flooding is expected to happen.

Properties near the River Colne and River Holme are historically at a higher risk of water damage, including areas around Leeds Road, Turnbridge Road, and the Syngenta Works. On February 9, 2020, the River Colne at Colne Bridge reached its highest recorded level of 2.35 metres during a major storm.

The Environment Agency continues to monitor local water levels and will provide updates if the situation changes. Residents can find more information on what these alerts mean and how to stay safe through the Flood Hub website.
