A 32-year-old man from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, has been sent to prison for 12 weeks after targeting parked cars in local neighbourhoods. Amgad Abouelazm was sentenced on 9 March 2026 following a series of offences committed just days earlier in the Dalton and Moldgreen areas.

The resident of Wakefield Road pleaded guilty to three offences of interfering with a motor vehicle and one count of stealing from a car. These crimes took place on 6 March and 7 March 2026, leading to his swift conviction at Leeds Magistrates Court.

According to West Yorkshire Police, the arrest was made possible by residents who reported seeing a man trying car door handles. This community information allowed the Huddersfield Neighbourhood Policing Team to identify and track down the offender quickly.

Inspector Nicholas Kitson said that the reports from the public made it clear that a repeat offender was operating in the area. He highlighted that this case shows how important it is for neighbours to share information with officers to help stop local crime trends.

This fast judicial result is part of a wider effort by officers to tackle property crime and antisocial behaviour across the region. Police are encouraging residents to continue reporting any suspicious activity they see in their streets to help maintain safety.
