Residents in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, should prepare for a wet start to the day on Friday 6 March 2026, as rain is forecast to arrive in time for the morning commute. According to the Met Office, there is a 60 per cent chance of light rain starting at 06:00 and lasting through the peak travel hours.
The change in weather follows a forecast for an unusually warm Thursday where temperatures are expected to reach 16C, significantly higher than the typical March average. On Friday, the temperature is expected to drop to a high of 8C, making for a much colder day for those working outdoors or walking to school.
Drivers using major routes like the A629 Halifax Road and Leeds Road (A62) may experience slower journeys due to the combination of surface water and ongoing roadworks. Kirklees Council is currently overseeing major road improvement projects on these routes that are expected to continue through June 2026.
Motorists using the M62 should also be aware of nightly closures of lanes two and three between 20:00 and 06:00, which are set to continue until 7 March 2026. Information from National Highways indicates these maintenance works conclude just as the morning rain begins, which could lead to lingering congestion during the early commute.
Commuters and parents on school runs are advised to allow extra travel time for their Friday morning journeys. Local residents are also encouraged to have waterproof clothing ready, as the light drizzle is expected to persist into the early afternoon.
