On 16 March 2026, the Minister for Health Innovation and Safety officially opened the Southgate Community Diagnostic Centre in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. This new health hub is based in the Emily Siddon Building at the National Health Innovation Campus and is designed to give local people faster access to important medical tests.
The facility is the first of its kind in the United Kingdom to be located on a university campus. It is operated through a partnership between the University of Huddersfield and the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.
Patients can visit the site for a variety of services, including detailed body scans and X-rays, in a modern setting away from a hospital. By providing these tests in the community, health officials aim to reduce waiting times for patients across the region.
Doctor Zubir Ahmed MP presided over the opening ceremony for the new centre. The project is part of a national effort to create diagnostic hubs that make it easier for people to get the tests they need for a quick diagnosis.
