Huddersfield in West Yorkshire will host an extended Thrift Market on February 20, 2026, to bring more shoppers into the town centre during ongoing construction works. This event aims to give local people more shopping options while helping independent businesses survive a period of major redevelopment in the town.

The market is organised by the Huddersfield Business Improvement District to promote sustainable shopping and help local charities. Since it first started in May 2024, the series has focused on offering pre-loved goods and unique items from small traders who are navigating difficult economic times.

Business leaders believe the market is essential for keeping the town centre busy while the large redevelopment project moves forward. This building work by Kirklees Council will eventually open a new food hall and library, with the first part of the Our Cultural Heart project expected to be finished in the summer of 2026.

Sam Sharp, the manager of the business group, says the event is about more than just finding a bargain. It is designed to support the community and ensure that independent shops remain a part of the town as it transitions into a new cultural hub. Visitors can also find local gifts and travel information at the Hello Huddersfield shop and office base in the town centre.
