Work on the historic George Hotel in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, is set to move into its next phase in March 2026. This stage involves setting up a construction site in St George’s Square to support the major transformation of the landmark building.

The Kirklees Council project is being led by GMI Construction Group. Once finished, the site will be home to the first Radisson RED hotel in the region, featuring 108 rooms, a restaurant, a bar, a gym, and spaces for business meetings.

Builders will preserve the original three-storey stone front of the hotel while adding two new floors for guests on top. These extra levels will be set back from the edge to ensure the building keeps its traditional appearance from the square.

The local council has invested roughly £30 million into the renovation to help bring more visitors and jobs to the town centre. To help the project move forward, a dedicated area for site offices and staff facilities will be built in the square starting in March 2026.
