People travelling from Ipswich, Suffolk, will need to use buses instead of trains on February 22, 2026, due to essential track upgrades. Greater Anglia has confirmed that all train services between Ipswich and Diss, and between Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds, will be stopped for the day.

Network Rail is performing the work to replace 40-year-old signalling parts that have reached the end of their life. Engineers will install new digital equipment to help stop the signal failures that often cause delays for local passengers.

The work will cut the main rail link between Ipswich and Norwich, as well as routes heading toward Cambridge and Peterborough. A replacement bus service will be in place to bridge the gap, but passengers should expect their journeys to take significantly longer than a normal train ride.

Train operators are advising everyone to check the latest timetables and travel arrangements online before starting their trip. This upgrade is part of a five-year plan to modernise the railway and make services more reliable across the region.
