The Friends of Holywells Park are marking a double celebration in Ipswich this summer, as they commemorate both the 90th anniversary of the park opening to the public and the 25th anniversary of their volunteer group.

To celebrate these milestones, a community event is being held on 4 July 2026 within the 67-acre park, which is situated near the Waterfront between Nacton Road and Cliff Lane. Residents are invited to enjoy a range of activities, including live music, children’s games, and refreshments such as tea, cakes, ice cream, and a hog roast.

The park first opened to the public on 30 May 1936, after Lord Woodbridge purchased the estate from the Cobbold family and presented the land to the people of Ipswich. Since the formation of the Friends of Holywells Park in 2001, the group has worked in partnership with Ipswich Borough Council to maintain and improve the grounds. Their efforts have helped the site maintain its Green Flag Award status for 16 consecutive years.

Further information regarding the July event can be found on the Friends of Holywells Park website.
