Ipswich residents will see changes to their waste collection services starting 1 June 2026, as Ipswich Borough Council officially launches its new Better Recycling service. The updated collection scheme is part of a national Simpler Recycling mandate introduced by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to standardise recycling across England.

To prepare for the launch, the council has completed equipment deliveries to all 50,821 eligible households in the area. These households have received a green-lidded wheelie bin designated for paper and card, alongside a 5-litre indoor food caddy and a 23-litre outdoor food caddy. The new service includes weekly collections for food waste, which the council is legally required to provide under the government legislation.

Existing blue bins will remain in use but will now accept a wider range of materials, including glass bottles and jars, plastic film, metal, and cartons such as Tetra Pak. Residents should look out for collection calendars delivered throughout May, which provide specific details regarding the new collection schedules. For further enquiries, residents can contact the council at 01473 432000.
