Every household in Ipswich, Suffolk, will receive a new recycling information pack between 26 February and 9 March 2026 as the town prepares for major changes to bin collections. This mailing is the first step in moving to a revamped waste service designed to simplify how residents get rid of their rubbish.
The new service, known as Better Recycling, is scheduled to officially launch on 1 June 2026. According to Ipswich Borough Council, the information packs will include a leaflet explaining upcoming changes to bin routines and which items should go in which containers.
Residents will soon be able to place glass bottles, jars, and drink cartons such as Tetra Pak directly into their kerbside recycling bins. The updated service also introduces a weekly food waste collection for all homes to help manage household waste more effectively.
These updates follow the UK Government’s Simpler Recycling legislation, which begins on 1 April 2026. The Suffolk Waste Partnership is coordinating the changes across the county to ensure recycling rules are the same for everyone.
The council is also working with an organisation called Podback to ensure coffee pod recycling is integrated into the new system. Residents should keep their information packs as they contain the instructions needed for the rollout of new bins and containers later this spring.
