Ipswich Borough Council has installed eight new dual recycling bins across the town centre in Suffolk to help residents and visitors recycle while they are out and about. The installation was completed in February 2026, with the new bins placed in busy pedestrian areas including Tavern Street, Westgate Street, and Carr Street.

These bright units have a separate section for plastic bottles and aluminium cans to help keep them away from general litter. According to the council, the new bins are designed to cut down on street waste and stop recycling from being ruined by non-recyclable items that can cause collections to be incinerated rather than recycled.

The council worked with the charity Hubbub and the Suffolk Waste Partnership to put the bins in place. This project follows an earlier trial and is part of a plan to help the town meet new national recycling laws that will begin on April 1, 2026.

Local residents will also see changes to their household waste collections starting on June 1, 2026, which will include separate bins for paper and card. Information from Ipswich Borough Council reminds people that if they are in doubt about whether an item can be recycled, they should leave it out of the recycling bin.
