A 23-year-old man was sentenced to five years and 10 months in prison on 25 February 2026 after he broke a police officer’s finger during an arrest in Ipswich, Suffolk. Deivydas Geryba appeared at Ipswich Crown Court to face charges for drug dealing and for causing serious physical harm to an emergency worker.
The incident took place in the Burlington Road area when a plain-clothed officer from the Suffolk Constabulary attempted to arrest Geryba. During a violent struggle, the officer suffered a broken finger while trying to take the suspect into custody.
Geryba was found to be in possession of heroin and cocaine that he intended to sell to others. He was convicted of having the illegal drugs alongside the charge for the assault on the officer, as recorded by Suffolk Police.
The officer involved was a member of the Sentinel team, which is a specialist unit that works to stop drug supply networks in the community. Police reports for the Westgate and St Margaret’s area show that this sentence is part of a wider effort to keep local streets safe.
