Ipswich Borough Council officially took ownership of 26 new council homes at the Hawke Road development in Ipswich, Suffolk, on 2 March 2026. The handover is part of a larger plan to provide more affordable and modern housing for families in the local community.

The new development consists of 20 houses with two to four bedrooms and six flats. These properties were built on the former Diesco industrial site, and one of the flats has been designed specifically to be fully wheelchair accessible.

To help residents save money on their energy bills, every home has been fitted with solar panels and high-quality insulation. Each property also has access to a charging point for electric vehicles as part of the council’s efforts to be more environmentally friendly.

These houses and flats are part of a wider strategy to finish 302 new homes across four different locations in the town by March 2026. The project was delivered by Handford Homes, which is a building company owned by the council.

As part of the work in the area, a nearby recreation space is being updated with a new play area. The park will have a design based on the old local gasworks to reflect the industrial history of the neighbourhood.
