Dudley Kingswinford Rugby Club is calling on local residents to lend a hand at a volunteer clean-up day at its Heathbrook ground on Saturday 4 July. The club wants members, players, parents, supporters, and anyone else who can spare an hour or more to help prepare the site for the new rugby season, starting at 11.00am.

Tasks will include painting outdoor furniture and railings, weeding, sweeping, cleaning, and general maintenance jobs that need extra pairs of hands. The club said that whether people can stay for just an hour or the whole day, every bit of help makes a difference in getting Heathbrook ready for rugby to return.

The club has been at Heathbrook since 1962, but its roots stretch back to May 1920, when it began as Harper Bean Football Club. It became Dudley RFC in the early 1920s and adopted its current name in 1926 after moving to Penzer Street in Kingswinford. A dedicated volunteer grounds team looks after the pitches year-round, supported at times by contractors for larger projects.

The clean-up continues annual pre-season work that already saw pitch maintenance begin earlier this week. With multiple senior and junior sides, including the Vixens ladies team and age-group rugby from Micros to Colts, the club remains a central community asset in Wall Heath.
