The Met Office has issued a high air pollution alert for Kingswinford, West Midlands, for Sunday 8 March 2026. This warning means that air quality levels are expected to reach between seven and nine on the national index throughout the day. Residents, particularly those with existing health conditions, are being told to take precautions and consider changing their outdoor plans.

This drop in air quality is likely being caused by a plume of Saharan dust moving over the United Kingdom. Information from Defra suggests the dust will arrive over the weekend and may stay trapped near the ground due to light winds, preventing traffic fumes from clearing away as usual.

Health experts say that older people and those with heart or lung conditions should reduce strenuous physical exertion  while the levels stay high. Other residents who experience a cough, sore throat, or sore eyes are also encouraged to reduce their outdoor activities until the air improves.

Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council has monitored air quality in the town for many years. Kingswinford has been part of a borough-wide management area for nitrogen dioxide since 2007 because of emissions from local traffic, and officials continue to track these levels to protect public health.
