Joseph Brice, 41, of Crosland Street in Southdene, Kirkby, Merseyside, has been sentenced to two years and eight months in prison for stealing sentimental jewellery from his mother. He appeared at Liverpool Crown Court where he was convicted of three counts of theft from a home and three counts of fraud.
Between January and April, Brice took several items from his mother’s bedroom, including a chain and locket that belonged to his late grandmother. After taking the jewellery, he pawned the items at a shop in Kirkby town centre for cash.
According to Merseyside Police, the stolen items were of priceless sentimental value to the victim. Officers confirmed that although the theft caused significant distress, the jewellery has since been recovered and returned to the owner.
Constable Miller described the man’s behaviour as despicable and stated that the local community would likely share a sense of disgust at his actions. The officer expressed hope that Brice would use his time in prison to reflect on his behaviour and his life.
