On Wednesday 21 January 2026, Merseyside Police launched an appeal after the front door of a house on Warrenhouse Road in Kirkby was set alight.

The incident occurred shortly before midnight. Officers are seeking a man who fled the scene on foot; he is described as wearing a green hoodie and dark trousers and carrying a small blue plastic bag.

No-one was injured and the fire was quickly extinguished. Police said extensive enquiries are ongoing and that the investigation is being carried out jointly with Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service.

Detective Inspector Steve Byrom said: “Thankfully the fire was quickly extinguished, and the occupants were not injured. The investigation is in the early stages and extensive enquiries are being carried out. I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity at around midnight onwards and noticed a male matching the description and acting suspicious to please contact us. I am also appealing for any drivers who were in the area at the time to please check your dashcam footage and get in touch if the male was captured on your footage. This evidence could hold information that could be vital to our enquiries.”

Data from CrimeRate.co.uk indicates Kirkby’s crime rate remains significantly higher than the North West average, with criminal damage and arson recurring concerns in the area.

Anyone with CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage from the area is asked to contact Merseyside Police. For further local coverage and updates see the Liverpool Echo.
