Kirkby Community Fire Station in Merseyside is reminding people to sign up for a free home fire safety check following a local house fire. These visits help families stay safe by providing expert advice and checking that smoke alarms are working properly throughout the house.

The reminder comes after Merseyside Police began investigating a fire on Warrenhouse Road that took place on January 21, 2026. Firefighters want to ensure that every home has working detection, especially as many domestic fire fatalities in Merseyside have been linked to smoking materials and a lack of working smoke alarms.

During the visit, crews will check for fire risks in the home and can install 10‑year sealed‑battery smoke alarms for eligible residents (for example, those aged over 65 or with disabilities). Firefighters are also providing advice on how to safely charge items such as e‑bikes and scooters, which have increasingly been associated with lithium‑ion battery–related fires in the area.

To book a free visit, residents should call Fire Service Direct on 0800 731 5958 rather than phoning the fire station on Webster Drive directly.
