Car parks in Lancaster, Lancashire, will remain open for now despite the national operator NCP running into financial difficulties. While 22 sites across the UK are set to close at midnight tonight, 27 March 2026, none of the affected locations are in the local area.

According to the business experts at PwC, who were appointed to manage the firm on 16 March 2026, all Lancashire sites will continue to run as normal. The company has faced a crisis due to a financial shortfall of £305 million, as changes in how people travel for work and shopping have reduced the demand for parking spaces.

The Dallas Road car park in Lancaster is one of the sites that will stay open while a buyer for the business is sought. The operator also manages car parks in nearby Preston and Blackpool, along with the visitor parking at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital.

Local business owners have raised concerns that any loss of parking could discourage shoppers from visiting the city centre. To address these worries, the local council has promised to maintain more than 1,500 parking spots across the city as part of a plan lasting until 2028.
