On the afternoon of 9 March 2026, one fire engine from the Lancaster Fire Station was sent to a commercial property on Ladies Walk in Lancaster, Lancashire. Firefighters arrived at the premises to respond to a report of a chemical spill at 4:26 p.m.
The crew from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service used specialist ventilation equipment to make the building safe. These fans, called positive pressure ventilation, are used to blow fresh air into a building to clear out any fumes or smoke.
The site was secured quickly to protect the safety of people working in the building and those living in the surrounding area. After ensuring the area was safe, the emergency response was concluded.
The incident highlights why it is important for businesses to have clear plans for handling and storing chemicals. Local companies are encouraged to keep safety protocols up to date to ensure any accidents are reported and managed quickly by emergency services.
