Lancaster University has secured its fifth consecutive victory in the annual Roses tournament, marking a historic achievement in the competition’s 60-year history. The university finished with a score of 241.5 to the University of York’s 120.5 following three days of intense sporting action held from 1 to 3 May 2026.

The event, which celebrated its 60th anniversary this year, was hosted by the Lancaster University Students’ Union. It is estimated that 30,000 spectators attended the tournament, which featured over 140 fixtures across 45 different sports and activities, ranging from traditional games like football and rugby to darts, esports, and martial arts.

This result sets a new record for the competition, as it is the first time either university has achieved four or more consecutive tournament wins since the event began. The winning streak for Lancaster University has remained unbroken since 2022.

The trophy was presented by the Lancaster University Vice Chancellor, Professor Steve Decent. During the ceremony, he declared that “Roses are Red,” marking his first time officiating the event.
