A 42-year-old man from Morecambe has been sentenced to 20 months in prison after attacking a police officer with a brick in Lancaster.

George Jacob was sentenced at Preston Crown Court on 14 April 2026 after pleading guilty to Section 20 wounding, assaulting a police officer, and criminal damage. The sentencing follows an incident on 22 November 2023, when a Lancaster-based police constable stopped Jacob and another individual who were in possession of an electric motorbike. After the officer seized the bike, Jacob pushed the constable and fled the scene. He returned shortly after and threw a brick through the driver-side window of the officer’s patrol car, striking him in the face.

The officer, a seven-year veteran of the Lancashire Constabulary who also serves as a volunteer RNLI helmsman, suffered a severe concussion, two chipped teeth, and facial lacerations. The injuries required extensive hospital treatment and dental work, and have left the officer with permanent facial scarring. In a victim personal statement read to the court, the officer described how the attack led him to re-evaluate his career and shared that his 18-month-old daughter did not recognise him following the incident due to the severity of his injuries.

Detective Inspector Adie Knowles of Lancaster CID said the assault was not something to be accepted as part of the job. He stated that the attack was a criminal act that would not be tolerated.

Jacob, who had 70 previous criminal convictions on his record, including past violence offences, remains in custody following the sentencing.
