Data released on 12 March 2026 shows that an average of nearly 30 road defects were reported every day in West Lancashire, Lancashire, during the recent winter months. Freedom of Information records reveal that 2,701 faults were logged by residents between November 2025 and January 2026.

Similar high volumes of road issues were also reported in Lancaster City during the same period. Gordon Johnson, a local councillor, released the figures to highlight the need for better road maintenance and more investment in local infrastructure.

The high number of new reports follows a statement from Lancashire County Council in September 2025 which noted that the total number of highway faults waiting for repair had fallen. At that time, there were 35,514 outstanding issues across the county, as the council used new contracts and technology to manage the workload.

Despite these efforts to reduce the overall list of repairs, the recent figures show that new potholes and surface problems are still appearing at a high rate. Local representatives are now calling for more consistent work to fix these issues to ensure the roads remain safe for all drivers and residents.
