Members of Silverdale Golf Club have raised £7,000 to support the Neonatal Unit at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary. The fundraising total, collected over the course of a year, will go toward improving care for babies and their families at the hospital.
The campaign was led by former club officials, including Past Captain Paul Bowman. For Bowman and his wife, Karen, the cause was particularly meaningful as they had previously received care and support from the hospital’s neonatal team. The year-long effort featured various community activities, including competitions and a fashion show hosted by local boutique Kitty Brown.
While club members raised £6,436 through these events, the total was increased to £7,000 following a personal donation from the club president, Keith Cordukes. The funds were donated to the Bay Hospitals Charity, which works alongside the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust.
The charity supports the hospital trust by funding improvements that fall outside standard government provisions, such as buying specialist medical equipment and upgrading hospital environments. The trust, which operates the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and its 334 inpatient beds, is a major employer in the region, with over 7,521 staff members.
