Two men from Blackburn have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man in his 30s who was injured during an altercation outside a local store. The incident took place at the Home Bargains on Byrom Street at approximately 6:45pm on Friday 27 March 2026.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, was involved in an argument with two men before he collapsed. He was taken to hospital for treatment but died on the afternoon of Saturday 28 March 2026. A postmortem examination conducted by a Home Office pathologist confirmed that the man died as a result of a head injury.

Detectives from the Lancashire Constabulary Force Major Investigation Team arrested two local men, aged 43 and 44, on Tuesday 31 March 2026. Both men remain in police custody while the investigation continues.

Detective Inspector Pete Macdonald stated that the investigation is in its early stages as officers work to determine exactly what happened. Police are urgently appealing for any members of the public who were in the area of Byrom Street between 4pm and 9:30pm on Friday 27 March 2026 to come forward. Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have relevant dashcam or mobile phone footage of the area during that time.

Anyone with information can contact the police directly. Those who wish to provide information anonymously can do so through the independent charity Crimestoppers.
