Residents in Luton, Bedfordshire, can get free advice on how to use artificial intelligence and smart devices safely at a drop‑in event next week. Luton Central Library will host the session on 10 February 2026 (Safer Internet Day) to help people feel more confident with new technology.

The session is part of the national Safer Internet Day campaign run by the UK Safer Internet Centre, whose 2026 theme is “Smart tech, safe choices – Exploring the safe and responsible use of AI.” Visitors will be able to get practical, face‑to‑face help — the organiser’s briefing notes mention refreshments will be available — while learning how to spot fake videos (deepfakes), secure smart‑home gadgets, and use chatbots and other AI tools without putting personal information at risk.

Staff from Active Luton (which runs Luton Libraries) will provide one‑to‑one advice to help make modern technology less confusing for people of all ages. The event ties into Luton Borough Council’s Luton 2040 inclusive‑economy strategy, which aims to make sure everyone in the town can benefit from digital skills and access.

Local leaders say they want to protect residents from the high‑tech scams highlighted in recent reporting. Experian’s 2026 Future of Fraud Forecast warns about deepfakes and other AI‑driven threats (including deepfake job candidates and risks to smart homes); other outlets have also reported a rise in voice‑cloning scams. The library’s face‑to‑face support aims to help residents use phones and home devices with greater confidence and security.
