A section of Stuart Street in Luton, Bedfordshire, was closed on 13 March 2026 after high winds damaged the roof of a town centre building. Emergency crews were called to Unity House after parts of the roof were dislodged during the night.

The building, which is a former council office now used as flats, lost a portion of its roof in the storm. Officials confirmed that no one was injured by the falling debris, which landed near the busy road.

Bedfordshire Police closed the westbound side of the road between Cardiff Road and Buxton Road to protect the public. The fire service and Luton Borough Council also attended the scene to help clear the materials and check the building.

Local authorities advised people to avoid the area while work was carried out to make the structure safe. The cleanup and safety checks continued through to the following day to ensure there was no further risk to residents or drivers.
