Residents in Luton, Bedfordshire, are being warned to prepare for sleet showers and strong wind gusts of up to 38mph on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. The Met Office says there is a high chance of sleet late in the evening, which could lead to icy patches on roads and pavements.

A yellow warning for ice is already in place for the area, starting Tuesday evening, as temperatures are expected to feel as cold as -4C. The Met Office stated that the exact amount of rain and snow will depend on the movement of a weather system coming from the southwest.

This cold weather arrives during the school half-term holiday, which according to Primary Times runs until February 22, 2026. While there may be less traffic from the daily school run, families travelling for the break or using London Luton Airport are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.

Luton Borough Council has confirmed it is ready to treat more than 140 miles of main roads to keep them safe. The council also maintains over 150 salt bins across the town for residents to use in known trouble spots during the freezing conditions.
