Three students from the University of Bedfordshire in Luton, Bedfordshire,  are currently undertaking professional work placements professional with the media team at Luton Town Football Club. The group is gaining practical experience by covering academy matches and press conferences as part of a formal partnership between the university and the club.

The students involved in the project include second-year media, marketing and PR student Amelia Curran, and sports journalism students Joseph Murtagh and Liam Wilmot, the latter of whom is acting as a trainee club journalist. Their roles involve a variety of daily tasks such as writing match reports, conducting interviews, and creating video content for the club’s academy teams.

As part of their training, the students travel on the team coach to matches across the country to work alongside the academy staff and players. This allows them to become embedded within the club and produce social media content directly from the events they attend.

This initiative is part of the university’s role as the official education partner for the football club. The programme is designed to provide students with industry-standard experience and professional skills to ensure they are ready to find jobs in the media after they finish their degrees.
