Women in Middlesbrough are invited to attend two upcoming information sessions aimed at making the breast screening process easier to understand and more accessible. Hosted by University Hospitals Tees, the events will take place on Tuesday, 16 June 2026, to encourage more local residents to keep up with their routine mammogram appointments.

The sessions will offer visitors the chance to meet the radiology team, tour the screening facilities, and ask any questions they may have in a relaxed environment. While these events are designed to help women feel more comfortable with the screening process, the trust has confirmed that no actual medical scans will be performed on the day. The breast screening services are delivered by the North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust team across Teesside, North Yorkshire, and Durham, and the trust is working in partnership with South Tees as University Hospitals Tees to host these events.

Senior radiographer Helen Clyde highlighted that missed appointments remain a significant concern for the health service. She stated that the goal of these open days is to help women feel relaxed and familiar with the process before they attend their screening. Nationally, about three in ten women do not take up the offer of screening, even though early detection through the programme is vital for identifying thousands of cancer cases each year.

Residents can visit the One Life Medical Centre on Linthorpe Road in Middlesbrough from 9.30am to 12pm, where free parking is available. An afternoon session will be held at the breast care unit at the University Hospital of Hartlepool from 1pm to 4pm. Please note that parking charges apply for visitors at the Hartlepool site.
