Middlesbrough residents are invited to a free open day at Middlesbrough Environment City on Friday 12 June 2026, from 10am to 2pm at its Sandy Flatts Lane site in Acklam to mark Great Big Green Week. The event is free and aims to bring people together to celebrate local action on climate and nature while helping attendees gain practical skills.
Activities on the day include a seed sowing workshop, a community litter pick running from 11am to 12pm, film screenings, and a skills swap workshop running between 10am and 1pm. An energy advice drop-in will offer free energy-saving support and items such as low-energy lightbulbs, and sustainable cream teas will be provided throughout the day.
All activities are free but require advance booking, with free tickets available via Eventbrite; attendees are asked to secure their place before the day. Visitors can drop in at any time between 10am and 2pm but should book in advance to take part in workshops and the litter pick.
Great Big Green Week runs from 6 to 14 June and is coordinated by The Climate Coalition; the national campaign involved more than 1.2 million participants last year. Middlesbrough Environment City is an independent charity based at the former Nature’s World site in Acklam and has worked in the Tees Valley for more than 30 years.
