Middlesbrough Council Children’s Scrutiny Panel will meet on Monday, 9 March 2026, at 4:30 pm in the Mandela Room at the Town Hall to discuss how children in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, are being kept safe and supported in school.

The panel will review a report from an inspection that took place in December 2025 which looked at the service that first deals with reports of children at risk to ensure they are getting help quickly. This inspection by Ofsted focused on how the council identifies and manages urgent concerns about child welfare.

Councillors will also receive updates on children who are not currently attending school and how their education is being tracked by the council. They will further look at the use of specialist care for children that is provided outside of the local area to assess the quality of support those children receive.

The Executive Director of Children’s Services, Annabel Bates, is expected to present these reports to show what progress has been made on service improvement plans. This meeting offers a way for parents and residents to see how local services are being monitored and held to account by the council.
