Milton Keynes City Council and Higgins Partnerships officially started building 66 new council homes at the former Cripps Lodge site in Netherfield, Buckinghamshire, on 24 March 2026. This project is part of a plan to provide more affordable housing for local families and people who need help with mobility.
The new development will feature a mix of bungalows, houses, and apartments. These homes are designed for older residents and people who find it hard to move around, featuring step-free layouts, accessible bathrooms, and kitchens that are easy to use.
Every home will include its own private garden, off-road parking, and access to shared green spaces. To help keep energy costs low, the council is installing solar panels and air source heat pumps, with all building work expected to finish in 2028.
The land was once used for a sheltered housing scheme but has been empty since it was pulled down in 2020. This building work begins as around 175 families ask the council for housing help every month, which led the local authority to spend over £18 million on emergency housing in the last year.
The project was awarded through the More for MK scheme, which requires the contractor to give back to the community. This includes providing new local jobs and offering apprenticeships for residents while the construction is underway.
