Young people in Milton Keynes can get hands-on with a camera this August at a series of free photography workshops hosted by Unity Place. The sessions run on three consecutive Tuesdays — 11, 18, and 25 August — in the venue’s Community Hall, with separate classes for children aged 8 to 12 and teenagers aged 13 to 17.

Each hour-long workshop is led by Dan Grannum, founder of Pixel Affiliate, who brings over 15 years of professional experience including work with Canon and Jessops Academy. The 8–12 age group meets from 11am to midday, while older participants attend from 1pm to 2pm. Groups are capped at 10 to keep the learning practical, covering camera fundamentals, manual settings, and how shutter speed can create visual effects. Booking is required through the Pixel Affiliate website and entry is free.

Participants can bring their own camera, but equipment is provided for those who need it. Parents may stay in the room or explore Unity Place’s other facilities, which include an Urban Food Market and the Unity Sky Lounge. The workshops form part of a wider summer programme at the Grafton Gate social enterprise, which regularly puts on free family activities such as digital treasure hunts and film screenings during school holidays.

Pixel Affiliate has previously run longer photography courses in Milton Keynes at the National Sound Studio, but these new one‑hour sessions are designed specifically as an accessible introduction for younger residents. Unity Place continues to build its reputation as a community hub, blending workspace, dining, and events under one roof at 200 Grafton Gate.
