On 6 February 2026 a local fundraising drive is moving into its final phase to complete a new wellbeing space for patients using the Radiotherapy Centre at Milton Keynes University Hospital in Buckinghamshire. The £500,000 appeal—led by Milton Keynes Hospital Charity with support from the Friends of Milton Keynes Hospital & Community—aims to provide a calming, non‑clinical environment for people receiving treatment.

The Friends of Milton Keynes Hospital & Community has already donated £50,000 toward the target to help fast‑track the development of a calming garden and lounge area. These spaces are intended to help patients feel more at ease and reduce anxiety during appointments.

Having the Radiotherapy Centre in the city means many residents no longer need to make the 70‑mile round trip to Oxford for daily radiotherapy. The centre began treating patients in January 2025 and, according to local reporting, lets people stay in their own community for treatments that can take only minutes but previously required journeys of up to three hours.

Milton Keynes City Council provided £5.7m specifically for the radiotherapy unit and has contributed £15.7m in total toward cancer and acute care on the hospital campus. The charity is raising the £500,000 to fund additional comforts—such as reclining chemotherapy chairs and a non‑clinical wellbeing area where patients can relax away from medical equipment.
