Milton Keynes City Council has been ranked among the top ten local authorities in England for adult social care, based on Care Quality Commission (CQC) assessment scores published in February 2026. The ranking — derived from CQC performance scores under its Single Assessment Framework — highlights the council’s strong performance in safeguarding vulnerable people and in helping more residents remain living safely at home.

Inspectors and the council’s self-assessment highlighted Milton Keynes’ prevention‑first approach and work to become a dementia‑friendly city. Milton Keynes City Council’s own report credits multi‑year efforts to improve digital support for carers and shorten waiting times for assessments, including a move away from manual paper‑based referral processes to a streamlined digital platform introduced in 2025.

Councillor Donna Fuller, Cabinet Member for Adults, Healthy Communities and Housing, said the recognition reflects the hard work of teams across the council to ensure residents are treated with dignity and to strengthen prevention. The council’s progress followed an LGA peer challenge in 2023 that helped shape its preparation for national assurance. By late 2024, the city reported that no care homes within its boundaries were rated ‘Inadequate’ by national inspectors.

The city has also introduced new digital support for young carers. The council’s 2 February 2026 announcement about the Tech4Young Carers programme described donated laptops, internet connections and bespoke training that have so far connected more than 50 young carers to online support. The council says its prevention focus is contributing to more people living safely and independently in the community.
