Milton Keynes City Council has launched a new pilot mobile app to help residents in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, track their bin collection days and improve recycling. The digital tool allows householders to check when their next collection is due, search for items to see if they can be recycled, and find their nearest recycling centre.

The app was developed by Cloud 9 Technologies Ltd and received its latest update on 13 March 2026. Residents can download the service for free through the App Store or Google Play to replace paper calendars or visits to the council website.

This new tool follows a significant rise in local recycling levels, with official figures showing the city reached a 60.2 per cent recycling rate in 2023/24. This increase moved the area from 83rd to 7th place in national rankings, which is well above the countrywide average of 44 per cent.

The council currently collects black general waste bins and green food and garden waste bins every week. Blue bins for glass, metal, and plastic are collected on alternate weeks from red bins used for paper and cardboard.

The move to a digital calendar follows the city’s switch from single-use plastic sacks to a wheelie bin system in September 2023. While the council now offers this official app, residents can also use an independent website called mkbinday.com which provides similar reminders for local bin dates.
