Thames Valley Police have named Gary Stanley as the victim of a fatal stabbing at the Centre:MK shopping centre in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. The 52-year-old local man was working as a security guard when the incident happened at around 5:10 PM on Saturday 28 February 2026. Despite the efforts of paramedics and his colleagues at the scene, Mr Stanley died from his injuries.
Officers have since charged 50-year-old Rory Wilson with murder and with having a knife in a public place. Wilson, who is from Towcester in Northamptonshire, appeared at Milton Keynes Magistrates’ Court on Monday 2 March 2026 and was kept in custody. The suspect was previously known as Rikki Alexander Stewart.
Local leaders have shared their shock following the attack, which police have described as an isolated incident. Emily Darlington, the MP for Milton Keynes Central, has asked for better support for shopping centre and security workers who may be traumatised by the violence. Friends and family have remembered Mr Stanley as a much-loved member of the community and a gentle giant.
The investigation into the death is still ongoing as the Major Crime Unit continues to gather evidence.
