Three representatives from Milton Keynes City Council in Buckinghamshire have been named in a national list of the most influential women in the planning sector for 2026. The annual Women of Influence list, published by The Planner magazine on 6 March 2026, highlights 50 women across the country who have made a significant impact on urban planning, policy-making, and community engagement.
The local professionals recognised include Councillor Shanika Mahendran, the Cabinet Member for Planning and Placemaking, alongside senior planning officer Nouvella Kusi and Local Plan Team Leader Charlotte Stevens. These women were selected for their modern approach to development and for finding new ways to help residents have their say on how the city grows.
Nouvella Kusi was specifically acknowledged for creating a digital platform called @urbanplan_her, which has reached over 150,000 people to discuss city planning. This tool makes it easier for the public to access information and take part in decisions about their local environment through social media.
Charlotte Stevens was recognised for her role in leading the preparation of the Milton Keynes City Plan 2050, which sets out a long-term vision for the area. Her work involves bringing public health ideas into the planning process to ensure that future building projects support the health and happiness of local people.
This national recognition for the council staff comes as Milton Keynes continues to expand and focus on high-quality, sustainable design. The annual list aims to showcase the work of women in professional roles who help decide how new buildings and public spaces are created.
