Armed Forces Day will return to Northampton’s Market Square on Saturday 27 June, with a free event running from 10am to 3pm as part of the nationwide commemorations. Organised by Northampton Town Council, the day will include an Armed Forces Parade, live music, talks, vehicle displays and stalls.
The council says the event will be hosted by NLive Radio and will open with welcome speeches before a packed stage line-up continues through the afternoon. Visitors will be able to hear from dignitaries, Armed Forces personnel and veterans, while musical entertainment will come from a singing group, a military band and a traditional brass band.
The market square event will also feature static military vehicles and emergency service display vehicles, along with stalls from military organisations, charities and community groups. Children will have activities including face painting, balloon modelling and a colouring station, and the council says the event is suitable for all ages.
Northampton Town Council has said it is hopeful the day will also see the return of a military parade through the town after a three-year hiatus. The event is listed on the national Armed Forces Day website as part of this year’s celebrations, while the county’s flag raising ceremony will take place at The Guildhall, St Giles’ Square, on Monday 22 June at 10am. Other Armed Forces Week events in the area include a day in Brackley on 27 June and an event in Rushden.
