Residents in Northampton, Northamptonshire, are being told to prepare for a significant change in the weather as heavy rain and strong winds arrive on Thursday, 12 March 2026. According to the Met Office, the town will see a shift from sunny intervals to overcast skies with wind gusts reaching up to 47mph.
Heavy and persistent rain is forecast for much of Thursday, which may lead to travel disruptions across the community during the midweek period. The chance of rainfall is expected to be very high throughout the day, rising to a 95 per cent chance or higher by late Thursday night.
As the rain clears, the region will experience a cooler and breezier trend heading into the weekend. While daytime temperatures are expected to stay near the seasonal average of around 11 degrees Celsius, the wind will make the air feel notably colder than the actual thermometer reading.
The feels-like temperature is set to drop to 0 degrees Celsius on Friday and as low as -2 degrees Celsius on Saturday morning. These conditions may cause frost to form, and residents are advised to take extra care on the roads and pavements during early morning starts when the cold is at its peak.
These blustery conditions are common for the area during the month of March as weather systems move in from the Atlantic. The town often sees these sudden shifts in wind and pressure during the transition from the winter months into the spring season.
