Residents in Northampton can expect a shift to cooler and more unsettled weather this week following a recent warm spell. According to the Met Office, temperatures are dropping significantly compared to the high levels seen across the region earlier this month.

Today, Wednesday 6 May, will see overcast skies and a high of 13°C. The morning will be particularly chilly, with temperatures as low as 4°C, and there is a 40 per cent chance of rain at midday.

Met Office Chief Forecaster Paul Gundersen noted that daytime temperatures could fluctuate by around 10°C during this transition. While the week will gradually warm up, Saturday 9 May is expected to be the warmest day, reaching 21°C before conditions become unsettled again.

Sunday 10 May will see the return of light rain with a 40 per cent chance of showers early in the morning. Residents should prepare for gusty winds reaching up to 30mph, making the 18°C high feel closer to 14°C. Looking ahead, the long-range forecast for mid-May indicates a continued risk of overnight rural frost, with temperatures remaining near or below the seasonal average for the area.

The upcoming conditions contrast with the unusually warm start to May, which saw temperatures peak at 26°C in other parts of the UK. While the forecast for the remainder of the week is cooler, these temperatures remain close to the typical May average maximum of 16.51°C recorded by the Met Office for Northampton.
