A major Northampton road will close and another will have a diversion route for a full day this July to make way for an entertainment event. West Northamptonshire Council has scheduled the closure of London Road A508 and the introduction of a diversion on Towcester Road from 11pm on Friday 17 July 2026 until 10:59pm on Saturday 18 July.

The council’s roadworks portal classifies the works as a public event, though the specific entertainment taking place has not been named in the official listing. A general diversion route will also operate across West Northamptonshire for the same 24‑hour window to steer traffic around the affected area. Residents and anyone travelling near these arterial routes should expect delays and plan extra journey time.

London Road A508 and Towcester Road form a key corridor into central Northampton, linking the town centre with surrounding districts. The council requires event organisers to secure temporary traffic regulation orders well in advance, a process that triggers the mapping of alternative routes and the publication of closure details on its public roadworks system.

Drivers who normally use these roads during the closure period will be directed onto signposted diversions. The restrictions lift just before 11pm on Saturday night, after which normal traffic flow is expected to resume.
