North Northamptonshire Council has officially joined a county-wide pledge to improve safety for women and girls across Northamptonshire. On 06 March 2026, the council signed the Northamptonshire Women’s Charter, committing to take practical steps to tackle violence and create more respectful public spaces.
The charter was first introduced in December 2025 by Danielle Stone, the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Northamptonshire. Since its launch, nearly 60 different organisations across the county have signed up to support the initiative.
By joining the scheme, the council will receive a special toolkit and training sessions for its staff. These resources are designed to help the local authority find ways to make its offices and local community areas feel safer and more welcoming for residents.
Council leader Martin Griffiths signed the document on behalf of the authority. As one of the largest employers in the region, the council hopes that joining the charter will lead the way and encourage other local businesses to do the same.
This commitment is part of a wider public safety plan that aims to reduce violence against women and girls. Other local groups that have already joined include Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service along with various local businesses and sports clubs.
