West Northamptonshire Council is set to use a new government fund to provide crisis support, housing help, and money advice for residents in Northampton, Northamptonshire. The council expects to receive approximately £4.65 million every year through the Community Resilience Fund to support locals who are facing financial pressures.

This new fund will take over from the Household Support Fund and Discretionary Housing Payments, which are both ending in March 2026. The council plans to use the money for four specific areas, including emergency help for people in immediate need and support with housing costs. There will also be a focus on providing financial guidance to help residents manage their budgets and working with local community groups to coordinate help.

The council cabinet will meet on 10 March 2026 to discuss the plans for how this money will be distributed over the next three years. Once the local strategy is agreed, a final version will be sent to the Department for Work and Pensions in July 2026 for approval. Cllr Charlie Hastie and Cllr Laura Couse are leading the work to ensure the support reaches those who need it most across the region.

By focusing on financial education and early help, the council aims to provide long-term stability for households rather than just one-off emergency payments. This new approach will likely see more money advice services and housing assistance programs become available in local hubs like libraries and community spaces starting from April 2026.
